Thio Toxicity Info

Recent Acute Toxicity Test Results Show Thio-RedTM, TR-50, TR-6, and WST-315 precipitants are significantly less toxic than DTC or Sodium Hydrosulfide (NaSH).

Acute toxicity tests were recently performed on Water Specialists Environmental Technologies Thio-RedTM, TR-50, TR-6, and WST-315 precipitants by an independent ecological laboratory.

These precipitants were tested for LC50 values, which means the concentration of the precipitant that is lethal to 50% of the exposed organisms. For these tests, the organisms used included Pimephales Promelas (fathead minnow)and  Ceriodaphnia Dubia (water flea).

In summary, the report shows the following LC50 values after 48-hour static acute toxicity tests:

FISH Thio-RedTM TR-50 TR-6 DTC-40* Nash 20-40* WST-315
Ceriodaphnia Dubia (Water Flea) 445 ppm 183 ppm 21.2 ppm 0.2 ppm 0.3 ppm 4,244 ppm
Primephales Promelas (Fathead Minnow) 342 ppm 159 ppm 25.9 ppm 3.7 ppm 0.5 ppm 3,850 ppm

*Data obtained online
The bottom line is that DTC and NaSH are considerably more toxic than Thio-RedTM, TR-50, TR-6 & WST-315
